From June 1, Northwest Airlines will use the Boeing 757 aircraft to take passengers to Vietnam via Tokyo in Japan.
United Airlines was the first US airline to be allowed to start a daily service between the US and Vietnam, via Hong Kong. The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, is scheduled to open a route to the US next year.
Last year, the US provided over US$1 million for Vietnam to upgrade Vietnam Airlines’s security and safety procedures to meet with US standards.
Northwest Airlines belongs to Delta Airlines, the biggest airline in the world and runs direct flights to Tokyo, connecting with many cities across the US.
Delta Airlines transports 170 million of passengers every year on flights to 375 destinations in 66 countries and territories around the world.
