The Republic of Korea (RoK) Embassy and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on April 7 opened a showroom at the Hanoi Daewoo Hotel to promote the image of Ha Long Bay in support for its race to become one of seven new world wonders.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, RoK Ambassador Im Hong-jae said that the RoK community in Vietnam has always paid attention to voting for Ha Long Bay.
He called on the RoK community to continue voting for the bay, which is a valuable asset of Vietnam and the world as well.
MCST Deputy Minister Tran Chien Thang thanked the RoK embassy and business circle, especially Kumho Asiana Group, and the RoK community in Vietnam for their support and assistance.
He suggested the RoK side continue support for Vietnam during this important event and called on Vietnamese people to vote for the RoK’s Jeju Island, another candidate in the voting list.
The voting for seven new world wonders on the Website www.new7wonders.com , launched by the NewOpenWorld, has entered the second phase where 21 sites of the most votes will be selected. The results of the voting will be announced in 2011.
Ha Long Bay , which was twice recognised by the UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site in 1994 and 2000, has always won a large number of votes and maintained its second or third place in the voting.
